Welcome to
Tekapo Trails

Our Organisation

Tekapo Trails is an incorporated society that operates for charitable purposes (CC55080) established in 2016. The goal is to share trail info with locals and visitors, and build community bonds through creating outdoor recreation chances with trails.

About Tekapo Trails

The Tekapo Trails Society Incorporated, a registered charity, was formed in 2017. It was borne from a desire by a group of outdoor enthusiasts, to link some of the region's beautiful existing but short trails to form a connected network of dual purpose trails.

The flagship trail on Sawdon Station near Lake Tekapo Regional Park is 8.2km. Open to the public, it offers scenic high country views without needing landowner permission. Originally narrow sheep tracks, the trail was widened, benched, cleared of rocks, and metalled manually. Includes a large lagoon reflecting Mt Edward.
